Project Feature: Outdoor Living

Project Feature: Outdoor Living

When we first descended on this property we noticed the lack of personality and character in the landscape. The fire-pit seemed to have been merely dropped in the lawn of the yard and the decking didn’t naturally blend in with the home. Our client wanted a one of a kind space that not only reflected their personality but was functional as well as aesthetically appealing, the complete opposite of their existing space. Our team worked hard from the design phase to the construction phase in order to completely transform this outdoor space.

A Meridian-Kessler Landscape Rooted in History and Place

A Meridian-Kessler Landscape Rooted in History and Place

When approaching this architecturally beautiful home in the historic Meridian-Kessler neighborhood one thing stood out to us right away: the existing landscape did not match the character of the home. Our designers made it a goal to create a design that would not only enhance the architecture of the home but also create a sense of place and arrival. With the use of different forms, patterns, and symmetry we were able to create a landscape that worked well with the unique character of the home.

Our Design Philosophy

Our Design Philosophy

At 317Grow our biggest priority is giving our clients a beautiful, unique, and functional outdoor space. We aim to create spaces that reflect the interest and personalities of our clients which is why we encourage client involvment in every step of the process to ensure that what we create is a product of your vision. To us the design process is the most important step of the process which is why we make it a goal to spend as much time as possible perfecting the design. The key to a successful outdoor space is a great design.

Make It Pop with Color

Make It Pop with Color

We pride ourselves in being able to make the best creative and functional use of small spaces, and this project in downtown Indianapolis really pushed us to our limits. At just 950 square feet, this may be the smallest back yard we have ever designed, and the front planting beds are even more limited. Our goal was to bring out the character of the house and the homeowners while getting the best use out of every square foot of horizontal and vertical space.

Landscape as Art

Landscape as Art

We approach all of our designs from an artistic perspective, but on this Herron Morton neighborhood project, we viewed the ground as our canvas for blocks of texture, color, shape, and even sound. As is typical in Indy’s near northside neighborhoods, space was tight, and all areas needed to be tightly managed to make the outdoor space as usable as possible while still making visual sense.

Designing to Remember: The 9/11 Memorial Plaza

Designing to Remember: The 9/11 Memorial Plaza

Landscape architects can play a pivotal role in helping us remember triumph and tragedy in the form of memorials, monuments, and outdoor places for reflection. In honor of the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, we'll take a look at the design of the National 9/11 Memorial, designed by architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker and think about how it helps residents and visitors in New York City remember the past while looking forward to the future.

Stone in the Landscape

Stone in the Landscape

Starting a new landscaping project is exciting but it can be stressful as well, especially when deciding on building materials. Believe it or not, stone plays a huge role in landscaping projects which is why it is so important to pick the one that works best for you. Whether you are needing it for pavement, stepping stones, a new fireplace, or as lawn edging, it is important to know which selection of stone would be perfect for the job.

Transitioning from Traditional to Modern in Zionsville

Transitioning from Traditional to Modern in Zionsville

When we first arrived at this Zionsville property, the landscaping was cookie-cutter suburban with tame, traditional plant choices and bed lines. No personality, no different from the neighbors. Our client wanted something fresh and new with special attention the the back yard, so our team put together an idea that transformed their property from humdrum to eye-catching.

2017 Flower & Patio Show: Weathered

2017 Flower & Patio Show: Weathered

The Flower & Patio Show ended this past Sunday, but if you didn't make it out to our booth you can take a digital tour today. Our theme this year was "Weathered", and it focused on rust-toned reds and age-inspired blues. The layout relies on clean organization, straight lines, and directed views in contrast to the kind of hectic spaces we see all too often at the show.

Downtown Indy's Urban Oasis

Downtown Indy's Urban Oasis

Limited space downtown can leave you feeling a little claustrophobic and in need of a place of rest and rejuvenation. We worked with one client to turn the back yard of their recently updated new home in downtown Indianapolis into a haven of peace with modern design and exquisite detail. You won't believe the transformation of this urban landscape design.
